It’s starting to look like Michelle Obama missing Jimmy Carter’s funeral wasn’t a fluke. A few days after her husband hobnobbed with Donald Trump, her rep has announced she won’t be attending Trump’s inauguration on January 20.
In a statement shared widely with news outlets, including the AP and CBS, a spokesperson for the Obamas said that “former first lady Michelle Obama will not attend the upcoming inauguration.” Barack will be there, and representatives for Bill and Hillary Clinton and George W. and Laura Bush have all confirmed they plan to attend.
The Obamas’ office didn’t include further explanation in the statement, though CNN reported after Carter’s funeral that Michelle was on an extended vacation in Hawaii. We will miss her perfect inauguration faces, but we wish her all the best.
