Are you ready for some preelection déjà vu? The Washington Post reports that Beyoncé is set to join Vice-President Kamala Harris at Friday’s rally in Houston. According to sources familiar with the event, the Houston native will take the stage alongside her mother, Tina Knowles; country star Willie Nelson; and, of course, the Democratic nominee. While Beyoncé hasn’t made her official endorsement yet, Harris has been using the Grammy winner’s “Freedom” as her walk-on song at rallies for months. Can I get a yeehaw?
If this news has you muttering “LOL, sure,” that’s probably because it sounds a lot like that time in August when TMZ falsely claimed Beyoncé was going to close out the DNC. Not only did the singer not show up that evening, but The Hollywood Reporter claimed Beyoncé was “never scheduled” to perform. At the time, the singer’s publicist, Yvette Noel Schure, wrote on Instagram: “Focus on the win and register to vote. Do not report rumors.”
For what it’s worth, this time Beyoncé’s camp hasn’t shut down the reports, and the New York Times and NBC News also seem confident Beyoncé will be on hand for Friday’s rally. Still, I’ll believe it when I actually see the Alien Superstar physically onstage and have confirmed she is not AI. Only then will we hoot and holler.
