Well, folks, it’s freezing in New York (you’re on my list, Punxsutawney Phil) and Frieze-ing in Los Angeles! But, if there’s one thing to be thankful for as the chill of winter lingers in the big city, perhaps it’s the final breaths of wintry-event looks we’re being treated to: I’m talking Zendaya in a long-sleeve gown with cutouts at the Dune premiere; Kate Winslet in a sleek, thick white blazer; and Tilda Swinton peacocking in a cozy bright-blue feathered frock at a Problemista screening. Even the Angelenos were sporting their sweaters and knits at cocktail parties and Frieze fair soirées (yes, it’s been a big week for moviegoers and art buyers alike). But don’t just take our word for it. See some of the best party looks below.
Best Pastels: Jennifer Atilémile
Atilémile has me craving Easter candy with her pretty pastel look at the Staud and Jeffrey Deitch celebration of Frieze in L.A.
Best Duo: Ellen DeGeneres and Jennifer Aniston
Aniston and DeGeneres? Together at a cocktail party celebrating Cameron Smith’s forthcoming book in the Melrose Arts District? Both wearing cozy cardigans? Actually, that is what happened, Ellen!
Best Trio: Zachary Quinto, Alex Israel, and Sybil Robson
If anyone wants to link up and be a chic trio, like Quinto, Israel, and Robson, pictured here at the Serpentine Americas Foundation at Frieze L.A., let me know.
Best T-shirt: Tierra Whack
I’m not sure what Whack’s shirt is supposed to convey, but here’s my interpretation: We, as humans, are doomed, or perhaps given the gift of, a nearly arduous, mundane, daily life, one that must be chiseled at little by little to an unknown end, just as Sisyphus was doomed to an eternity of pushing that boulder up a hill. Also! Might just be a little guy enjoying his little tasks! Who knows. Anyway, Whack wore this shirt to Carlos Nazario’s birthday bash at L’Avenue in Paris.
Best Headband: Veneda Carter and Maddy Denley
Stone Island staged its first US archival exhibition in Los Angeles during Frieze LA, and alongside some of the best arts, there were the best looks, like Carter and Denley who enriched their all-white outfits with small pops of color.
Best Gown: Zendaya
And what did we say about this dress? Everyone say, “Thank you, Zendaya!” for simply existing and showing up to the Dune: Part Two premiere in New York.
Best Blazer: Kate Winslet
Power-suit alert! We must bow down (the blazer demands it) to Winslet at HBO’s The Regime premiere at the American Museum of Natural History in New York.
Best Couple: David Harbour and Lily Allen
While I’m upset I wasn’t present, seated beside Allen (who got me through my angsty teen years) and Harbour (who is now oddly getting me through my angsty adult years), at this intimate West Elm x Billy Cotton dinner, this photo will be enough to get me through.
Best Print: Taraji P. Henson
Maybe I should experiment with more prints, because this is working for Henson, spotted celebrating her capsule collection with Kate Spade New York at one of the brand’s New York stores.
Best Sisters: Sadie and Sunny Sandler
In typical sister fashion, I need to know if Sadie or Sunny nabbed anything from the other’s closet to get dressed for the L.A. premiere of dad Adam Sandler’s newest Netflix movie, Spaceman.
Best Feather: Tilda Swinton
This is what Katy Perry meant when she sang: “I want to see your peacock.” Yes, indeed, she was referring to a future Swinton attending a Problemista screening in New York wearing this exact outfit.
Best Denim: Olivia Perez
Perez’s jeans at the 7 For All Mankind campaign dinner are near perfection — the dark-wash, the slightly oversized fit, that little peak of a heel — and rightfully so. It is a party all about denim after all.
