The paparazzi outside of London’s House of Holland show yesterday were abuzz: Harry Styles was supposed to make an appearance. And indeed he did, popping out from backstage and striding casually down the runway, flanked by British presenter Nick Grimshaw on one side and Kelly Osbourne on the other. When asked to pose for the photographers’ pit, he reacted with an “I guess so” shrug, as though he had hoped nobody would be interested.
The collection itself was inspired by “a tough gang of homegirls,” according to the show notes, and featured Venice Beach-inspired rose tattoos on ladylike trench coats, shift dresses with rose-shaped cut-outs, and lace baseball caps. There were also hand-painted harnesses that held cellphones and keys instead of guns, apparently for those who like to keep their phones under their armpits.
Styles, who chewed gum and chatted to Osbourne and Grimshaw throughout the show, joined the usual host of Holland’s friends in the front row: Alexa Chung, Pixie Geldof, Nicola Roberts, Leigh Lezark, Atlanta de Cadenet, and Daisy Lowe. In previous seasons Chung has been the center of the photographers’ attention, but this time the sheer force of Styles’ stardom outshone her. Also of note: He appears to be growing a mustache. We just need one more teen heartthrob to jump on the bandwagon and it’s officially a trend.
