During the fifties and sixties, Pierre Cardin was known for his futuristic space-age couture creations — an aesthetic that translated to his choice in holiday decoration as well. This 1965 photo shows his muse, model Hiroko Matsumoto, putting the finishing touches on a shiny Christmas tree consisting of oversize metallic balls, chicken wire, and wood. To best complement the decor, she’s clad in a slim, sparkly dress and the most perfect sleek bob and cat-eye combo.
