At Collina Strada’s spring 2022 collection, the makeup was inspired by a hot, sweaty day in a fairy garden. “Humid, sunny skin and dazzling colors and textures,” said Allie Smith, the makeup artist. The happy, carefree vibe of the makeup matched the joyous, chaotic energy of the clothes, which featured prints made from childlike drawings.

To create the makeup look, Smith dusted the models’ ears (and their fingertips) with touches of iridescent glitter in swirls and smudges of shamrock green, goldenrod, orange, and Arctic blue. The effect was sort of like Abstract Expressionist fairy dust. To add a painterly quality to the vibrancy of the color, Smith added layers of makeup pigment. She combined a mix of M.A.C Pigment, Paintstick, Eye Shadow, and Cream Color Base. The skin gleamed, with a dewy sheen, thanks to a limited mix of concealer, foundation, and a dewy face mist (M.A.C Fix and Magic Radiance).

Although most people don’t regularly highlight their ears, it’s not the first time that makeup artists have extended ear-ward. For the Opening Ceremony fall 2016 show, ears became disco lobes. Proenza Schouler also dip-dyed models’ ears in shades of yellow and white paint in spring 2017. So when it comes to ear makeup, ear goes nothing (just be careful not to get glitter into your ear canal).
