You only turn 150 years old once, and Bloomingdale’s is going all out to celebrate the milestone. The New York City luxury department store is kicking off its sesquicentennial celebrations with a week’s worth of exclusive fashion and beauty events and collabs.
On September 10, the 59th Street flagship becomes home to live art installations, interactive designer pop-ups, beauty treatments, live music, and more. You might not be able to get an L.L.Bean canvas bag with an ironic inscription, but you can leave with a customized Bloomingdale’s tote and treats from the brand — which is still a win in our books.
If you’re more into beauty you can look forward to their New York-inspired beauty fest. Dubbed “the Makeup Date,” this weeklong activation kicks off September 15 with a virtual conversation about what is trending in the beauty realm with Julee Wilson, the beauty director of Cosmopolitan, and Jenna Rosenstein, the beauty director of Harper’s Bazaar.
Plus, on that date both of the NYC locations will be offering customers makeup masterclasses and a $25 Bloomingdale’s gift card. (FYI: Gift cards make great last-minute holiday gifts.) Not in NYC? No problem! On September 17 you can expect music (!), makeup (!), coffee (!), and other perks throughout all stores nationwide.
However, the exclusive designer collabs are what really stand out. If you thought the checkered trend was passé, think again, because Bloomingdale’s tapped a handful of designers including MCM, Brother Veilles, and Staud to reimagine the classic black-and-white tiles of its flagship store onto some of the brands’ signature staples.
From Marc Jacob’s tote bag to a luxe Byredo candle, you can shop our favorite salt-and-pepper options below and check them all out at Bloomingdale’s.
Bloomindgale’s 150th Collection
This mini-tote is almost as good as Bloomie’s little brown bag. Made of leather, the little bag is anything but — it can fit your everyday essentials and a whole lot more.
Of all the checkerboard accessories courtesy of MCM, our eyes are on this shopper. The roomy tote makes a great work bag, but we’d even use this one on the weekends.
This party-ready bag is just as good as the brand’s shoes (maybe even better). Sure, it’s Bloomingdale’s birthday, but with this bag, you can party like it’s yours, too.
This cool pattern from the sustainably crafted brand Brother Vellies is a Bloomingdale’s exclusive. While these are men’s shoes, we highly recommend sizing down and grabbing a pair.
We love this vintage take on the usually minimal vessel for this best-selling fragrance. With warm notes of leather, vanilla, peach, and violet, you’ll want to keep this candle burning all fall and reuse it for long after.
It’s rare a luxe candle comes at such a steal. This is one of those things that will look good on your coffee table and smell good too, with notes of sandalwood, bergamot, musk, and amber.
Balance out your patterned accessories with a cozy, understated sweater and channel your inner rom-com protagonist.
A classic ’90s silhouette and the beaded detail? This is a day-to-night bag your closet needs.
If you were a fan of the McQueen skull scarf and are already feeling spooky for Halloween, consider this cozy throw from Barefoot Dreams.
Of the many patterned beauty products and Bloomie’s exclusives — which we also encourage you to check out for the La Mer kit alone — this might be the best deal. Prep and primp with the best of Charlotte Tilbury with this set that includes Magic Cream for the perfect base and the Pillow Talk liner and lipstick for an even better pout.
