Summer may be coming to a close, but the summer of divorce is still in full swing. Lest you’re still ailing from the marital death of Bennifer, might I offer you a palate cleanser in the form of Brittany Cartwright and Jax Taylor? In what feels like a sweet revenge moment for fans who’ve watched Vanderpump Rules alum Taylor trounce all over his partner throughout their relationship, “Page Six” confirmed Tuesday that Cartwright has filed for divorce after five years of marriage. The news comes on the heels of their February separation, during which The Valley castmate announced she had moved out of the home she shared with Taylor, taking their 3-year-old son, Cruz, with her. Per TMZ, she’s now reportedly citing “irreconcilable differences” in the divorce documents, but longtime VPR fans know that likely translates to “Rawt in hail.”
According to “Page Six,” Cartwright listed the estranged couple’s official date of separation as January 24, one day before her 35th birthday. She has reportedly asked the judge to waive spousal support for both partners and is seeking custody of Cruz and visitation rights for Taylor. The fate of their community assets — including the poorly reviewed Studio City bar Jax’s and their joint podcast When Reality Hits — will be decided at a later date, though I imagine Brittany would want to rid herself of an establishment named after her soon-to-be ex-husband. Perhaps the post-divorce Something About Her sandwich-shop route might be more feasible.
On the premiere season of Bravo’s The Valley, Taylor was showcased nagging Cartwright over everything from her drinking habits and the amount of time she spends with her friends to her ability to properly parent their child. Following their separation earlier this year, Cartwright also alluded to having a “particularly rough year,” claiming Taylor would often go out drinking, would scream at her “for hours,” and was “mean as a fucking snake” when hungover. The couple began dating in 2015 and got married in a Kentucky castle in 2019, though it seems the fairy-tale magic wore off as soon as the nuptials ended. There’s still a whole lot we don’t know about what happened behind the scenes of this marriage, but I do know that the upcoming season of The Valley is going to have one hell of a redemption arc for Miss Brittany Cartwright. You go, girl.
