Meghan Markle Is Finally Back on Instagram

Meghan Markle is not entering the New Year with the same tired resolutions as you and me. Oh, you want to look at your phone less? Well, she’s actually going to spend more time on social media.

Markle made her triumphant return to Instagram on New Year’s Day, sharing a video of her running on the beach and writing “2025” in the sand with shockingly neat finger-penmanship.

The next day, Markle used her new platform to share the trailer for her upcoming Netflix series, With Love, Meghan. The show seems to have her in a sort of Martha Stewart role, but if Martha were friends with Mindy Kaling and occasionally made very tiny, cute mistakes. (“We’re not in the pursuit of perfection,” she says. “We’re in the pursuit of joy!”) In the trailer, she’s baking; she’s buying flowers; she’s even putting on a full beekeeper’s outfit to collect honey. What won’t she do for a dinner party?

Markle has been planning her return to Instagram for years now. Back in August 2022, she told the Cut that she would soon be returning to the platform. (People points out that Markle’s new account was created in June 2022.) Last year, she dipped her toe into the Instagram waters with the account for her jam company, American Riviera Orchard. However, that page has not shared anything since it launched with an Instagram Story post and the company’s logo on its grid.

So what will Markle be sharing on Instagram now that she’s back? When People reported on her account hitting one million followers, it included this helpful tidbit:

PEOPLE understands that the Duchess of Sussex is excited to return to social media as a way to reconnect with communities worldwide and share updates about what she’s working on, eager to lead by example in using social media to spark joy and positive connection.

That all sounds lovely, but I do hope she circles back to the ARO account at some point in 2025 — selling jam is an excellent way to spark joy and positive connection.
