Did Melania Trump enjoy herself at her husband’s second inauguration? She spent most of the day hiding under the wide brim of an Eric Javits hat, making it hard to tell what she was thinking. But come Monday night, Melania finally took off her hat and even managed to smile a few times.
To celebrate Donald Trump’s official return to power, Melania attended a trio of inaugural balls alongside her husband. First, the couple hit up the Commander-in-Chief Ball, where they entered the room to a “thunderous” standing ovation, per the New York Post. The First Lady ditched her Adam Lippes suit for a zigzagging Hervé Pierre gown complete with a choker and a brooch that looks like a bouquet.
Despite taking advantage of her hat to dodge her husband’s kiss earlier in the day, Melania did eventually allow Trump to attempt an intimate moment. The first couple took the floor for a dance, during which the 54-year-old laid a stiff hand on her husband’s shoulder as she stared off into the distance. The couple were then joined by J.D. Vance and his wife, Usha. In a moment that will haunt me for years to come, Trump later danced to the “YMCA” with a sword in hand. Melania, for once, seemed to think this was funny.
