Everyone can relax: Taylor Swift and Blake Lively are still friends. Despite reports that Swift was “taking a step back” from their friendship after being referenced in Justin Baldoni’s lawsuit against Lively, it sounds like the pair are just fine. A source told “Page Six” that those reports are “not true” and that the besties are doing great, thank you very much.
Swift was dragged into the ongoing It Ends With Us legal battle when Baldoni sued Lively for extortion and defamation. In his complaint, Baldoni referenced a meeting he had at Lively’s home, during which “a famous, and famously close, friend of [Ryan] Reynolds and Lively, walked into the room and similarly began praising Lively’s [version of the] script.”
While Baldoni’s legal team was careful not to name Swift in the actual complaint, one text-message screenshot was left unredacted. “I really love what you did,” the actor-director wrote to Lively. “It really does help a lot. Makes it so much more fun and interesting. (And I would have felt that way without Ryan or Taylor).”
Was this an error on the part of Baldoni’s team or a purposeful inclusion of Swift’s name to make this whole situation even more headline-worthy? Well, I’ll let you be the judge of that. All I’m saying is that you’re a fool if you thought Swift would not stand by Lively during all of this. If there’s one thing Swift hates, it’s a man waging war against a woman in the press (and, in this case, the courts). And if there’s one thing Swift loves, it’s her friends. Do you really think Swift would “step back” from a friend going through her Reputation era? C’mon.
