If you’re not from Kansas City or the greater Philadelphia metro region, you probably don’t care too much about who wins the Super Bowl. With the exception of Taylor Swift and Gigi Hadid rooting for opposing teams, there’s not too much drama this year. That being said, the Super Bowl is about more than football. It’s about Kendrick Lamar, it’s about seven-layer dip, and it’s about famous people getting paid a ton of money to do a Super Bowl commercial that will make you say, “That’s clever” or “What a funny pairing.” Even though the big game is still a week away, the ads are already rolling out. Here are the Super Bowl commercials worth watching.
A When Harry Met Sally Reunion
Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal are back to recreate the iconic Katz’s Deli fake orgasm scene from When Harry Met Sally. What’s the product, you ask? What could possibly be the thing that gets these two back at their famous table? Hellmann’s mayonnaise. And who is taking up the mantle of the late Estelle Reiner to say, “I’ll have what she’s having”? Well, that would be Sydney Sweeney, of course. Frankly, none of this makes sense, and I don’t like the implication that a Katz’s sandwich needs mayo in the first place (who gets turkey there?), but I’m glad everyone got paid.
Martha Stewart and Charli XCX do a TikTok trend
The whole point of the “We Listen and We Don’t Judge” trend on TikTok is that couples reveal long-held embarrassing secrets to each other. Making two famous people who don’t know each other do it while promoting Uber Eats is — well, let’s just say the energy isn’t the same. They do let Martha make a weed joke, though.
Speaking of Uber Eats
Here’s Matthew McConaughey dressed as Mike Ditka doing a pretty good impression of that SNL sketch. Does this make you want to order a hot dog straight to your house?
Shaboozey is a friend to Nerds
Was a Jack Daniel’s ad too on the nose for the “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” singer or … ? Bucking the obvious move, Shaboozey has opted for a family-friendly Nerds campaign where it looks like the candies are his new friends. Okay!
An ad that’s actually funny?
Those seem to have been in short supply in recent years, but Doja Cat’s Taco Bell teaser got an earnest chuckle out of me. There’s something about the drive-through worker calling her “Ms. Cat” that’s really tickling my funny bone.
Age is just a number …
When it comes to Clydesdales being able to deliver Budweiser, that is. Look at that little guy go!
Seeing double?
Chrises Hemsworth and Pratt have teamed up to promote Ray-Ban Meta glasses. I would have liked to see Evans and Pine join in on the fun, maybe even Messina and Rock if we were really going all out. These two will do, I guess.
Catherine O’Hara and Willem Dafoe … What more do you need to know?
Okay, fine, I’ll give you the rest of the details but only because they’re good. Catherine O’Hara and Willem Dafoe star as an older couple who hustle some fellow pickleballers for their Michelob Ultras. My only note is that someone needs to get Christopher Guest on the phone immediately and tell him he must make a pickleball movie.
Ben Affleck is back in his Dunkin’ merch
Last year, he did this with Jennifer Lopez and Matt Damon. This year, it’s Casey Affleck and Jeremy Strong. And while I do think Jeremy Strong poking fun at himself is a breath of fresh air, it’s hard to not feel like we’re getting the B-team. Maybe the full version of the ad will be funnier.
Adam Brody for Pringles?
Who would’ve thought that in 2025, Adam Brody would be Zeitgeisty enough to be the face of Pringles’ Super Bowl ad? Not I! But I’m happy for him — the ad is actually funny and weird, and he delivers the button very well. I did not like seeing Nick Offerman without his mustache, though.
