Last night’s Valentino haute couture show at the Whitney dominated many an Instagram feed in New York — but on the other side of the world, there transpired an equally over-the-top fashion spectacle: Dior’s first-ever pre-fall show, presented before 1,400 people in an enormous Sumo wrestling stadium in Tokyo. While fake snow dusted the runway, models paraded around in everything from fur, zip-front dresses to sequined turtlenecks; from checkered minidresses to bright-pink boots.
