Since devastating wildfires broke out last week in Los Angeles, thousands of homes have burned down, and at least 24 people have died. The total impact remains difficult to fathom. In L.A., residents have stepped up to support their communities through volunteer efforts and donations. Among the thousands of residents impacted are many celebrities, who have been sharing their heartbreak as their homes and communities burn to the ground. If you’re able to contribute to relief efforts, you can find a list of places to donate here. Below, the celebrities who have announced financial donations to wildfire-relief efforts.
Beyoncé
Alongside an Instagram post stating that a previously planned January 14 announcement would be postponed, the singer wrote that her charity foundation, BeyGOOD, had created its LA Fire Relief Fund and donated $2.5 million “to directly support families who lost their homes and community organizations at the forefront of relief.” The fund is taking further donations, which, according to the donation page, will go to families, churches, and community centers.
Eva Longoria
The actress and longtime philanthropist said that she was supporting This Is About Humanity, an organization focused on supporting those affected by family-separation policies at the U.S./Mexico border. The organization is currently matching up to $50,000 of donations they receive, with the intention of supporting “front and second-line migrant farm workers, day laborers, and other essential workers and their families” affected by the fires. Longoria said that in addition to the organization’s match, she will personally be donating $50,000 to the fund.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Longoria’s foundation is also donating $1 million of her 2024 Courage & Civility award from Jeff Bezos to support the efforts of the Latino Community Foundation and the California Community Foundation to provide fire relief.
Paris Hilton
One of the many celebrities to lose a home due to the wildfires, Hilton launched an emergency fund through her nonprofit, 11:11 Media Impact, “to support displaced families with young children.” She said she would both match the first $100,000 donated and that she is personally donating another $100,000 to the nonprofit.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been seen volunteering with the World Central Kitchen, which is a longtime partner of their Archewell Foundation, according to CNN. Town & Country reports that in addition to volunteer efforts and donations of essentials like food and clothing, the couple also made a monetary donation through Archewell to support relief efforts. In a note posted on their website, sussex.com, the couple listed some ways to support and encouraged donations.
Jamie Lee Curtis and Christopher Guest
In an Instagram post, Curtis announced that her family had pledged $1 million through their Family Foundation. Curtis wrote that she was “in communication with Governor Newsom, Mayor Bass, and Senator Schiff, and later posted that the first of the funds would be going out to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, the California Community Foundation Wildfire Recovery Fund, and Red Cross of L.A. County. She also noted that the family would be participating in “a concert being prepared.”
Kylie Jenner
Although her sister Khloé Kardashian faced backlash for calling Los Angeles mayor Karen Bass “a joke” amid the fires, Jenner posted on her Instagram Stories that she was making a donation to the California Fire Foundation Wildfire & Disaster Relief Fund, according to the New York Daily News.
